Editorial policy

Johnson Matthey Technology Review publishes articles, reviews and short reports on sustainable technology solutions, transforming energy and reducing carbon emissions, for a cleaner, brighter, future.

Articles, reviews and short reports will be considered on:

Advanced metals chemistry

The platinum group metals (PGMs): platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), ruthenium (Ru), rhodium (Rh), iridium (Ir), osmium (Os)

  • PGM chemistry: PGM chemistry, pyro- and hydrometallurgy
  • PGM properties: properties of PGMs such as durability, high-temperature / corrosion resistivity and catalytic performance contributing to their industrial use
  • Advanced characterisation: understanding materials performance down to the atomic scale
  • PGM applications: application of PGMs in the automotive, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, glass-making and other industries
  • Circularity: recycling, refining and sustainable supply of the PGMs; including life cycle assessment.

Catalysis, adsorption and sensing

PGM and non-PGM catalysis, adsorption and sensing in the following application areas

  • Industrial catalysis: development and manufacture of catalysts for the automotive, energy and chemical industries
  • Heterogenous catalysis: for emissions control, hydrogen electrolysis, fuel cells, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and production of sustainable fuels
  • Homogenous catalysis: for the chemicals industry, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), plastics, rubbers and adhesives
  • Biocatalysis: for the pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals industries
  • Computational modelling: application of computational modelling and artificial intelligence to accelerate catalyst discovery
  • Surface chemistry: understanding surface chemistry interactions between the catalyst and support
  • Catalytic coatings: fuel cell catalyst coatings, membranes, performance optimisation

Process engineering

Aspects of manufacturing science and process optimisation in the following areas

  • Chemical processes: process technologies to produce sustainable fuels and chemicals
  • Process development: process chemistry and engineering, design, implementation and optimisation of chemicals processes, improving efficiency, quality, sustainability, safety and reducing cost
  • Computational modelling: computer models for the study of chemical reactions and production processes
  • Metallurgy and material science: for industrial equipment and processes
  • Automation and digitalisation: of process chemistry and operations
