Electrodes for Electrolytic Cells

A bipolar electrode for an electrolytic cell comprises two sheets of Pt, Rh, Ru, Ti or Ni coated with Pt which are separated by a plate of electrically insulating material extending beyond the edges of the metal sheets. The metals sheets are connected together through the insulating plate.

Platinum-coated Electrodes

The over-voltage of a Pt-coated anode for a Cl2 cell is lowered by first charging the Pt with H2 by electrolysing it cathodically in a solution which is free of Pt until evolution of H2 occurs on its surface and then heating the anode at 700−1,000°F so that there is at least some recrystallisation of Pt.

Improved Hydrocracking Process
